Casa en el Agua – One Night in Paradise

Casa en el Agua – A Floating Eco-Hostel in Colombia

Spending a night at Casa en el Agua, an eco-hostel floating over a turquoise Caribbean sea, was truly one of the best travel experiences of my life.

Casa en el agua

About the Experience in Casa en el agua

Casa en el Agua is a wooden hostel built right on the water, where every day feels like a mix of paradise and adventure. With hammocks overlooking the sea, crystal-clear water all around, and a lively atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to relax under the sun or dive into non-stop activities.

Vibes & Entertainment

Every single day, the hostel organizes parties and games—from swimming races to cliff jumps directly from the house. Winners usually get a bottle of local rum or other drinks. With music playing and a bar open all day, you can chill with a cocktail, meet fellow travelers, or dance until sunset.

Unforgettable Tours

We joined the Plankton Tour, and it was one of the most magical experiences ever. At night, a boat takes you across the mangroves under the moonlight, until you reach a hidden lagoon. There, you jump into the water and swim surrounded by bioluminescent plankton glowing with every movement—an absolutely unique moment you’ll never forget.

Other tours include:

  • Islote Tour — visit one of the most densely populated islands in the world.
  • Diving & Snorkeling in reefs and mangroves.
  • Day Trips to Tintipán and Múcura beaches.
  • Kayaking & Subwing — glide on the surface or “fly” underwater like a dolphin.

Food & Drinks

  • Fresh Caribbean seafood daily — lobsters, fish, octopus, and crabs, straight from local fishermen.
  • Vegetarian options available and thoughtfully prepared.
  • Guests don’t have access to the kitchen or fridge — everything is prepared for you by the staff.

To anyone going to Cartagena, I would definitely recommend spending at least one night in this paradise on the sea, where the calm vibe of the ocean mixes with the lively spirit of Colombia!

As someone from Colombia, I’m always excited to see international travelers exploring and sharing the beauty of our country. I’ve never had the chance to stay at this particular hotel in Cartagena, but reading your post truly made me want to include it in my future plans.

Your photos and impressions capture the essence of what makes the caribbean sooo special, crystal waters and amazing landscapes. It’s wonderful to see blogs like yours highlighting not just the well-known spots, but also the hidden gems that even we locals might overlook.

Thank you for helping more people discover the magic of Colombia. I’m sure this hotel will be at the top of my list for my next holidays! ❤️
