Best Beaches In Stari Grad
This is the perfect post to help you decide exactly which is the beach to visit if you’re staying for a couple of days in Stari Grad. Visiting from Hvar Town, or simply organising a day trip to explore different beaches.
After living in Stari Grad for over 3 months I can say I’ve tried them all!
Most of them are within walking distance from Stari Grad town, while others are closer to the Ferry Port. In general, you’ll find pebble beaches, and often in the surrounding area, there will be some rock platforms where you can spend time.
1 – Beach Lanterna
Probably the best spot to watch the sunset around town. This place is only a 15-minute walk from the town centre and 13 minutes from the Ferry Port. The best time to see the sun disappear into the water is from mid-July to mid-August.
Surrounded by pine trees. Like most of the beaches in Stari Grad, this place is great for spending a couple of hours. You can watch the sunset at its beach bar, which offers sunbeds and nice music.
Decide between laying your towel on the pebbles at the beach or one of the different rock platforms to chill.

2 – Kupalište Bonj
This is the first beach you’ll see coming from the town’s center, which means it is also the busiest of all, especially during the peak season when they open the Aqua-park that fills with kids enjoying their holidays. What I really like about this beach is the timeless old church that stands at the end, the Church of St. Jerome, which dates back to the 15th century.
I wouldn’t recommend this beach because it is generally crowded, and only 5 minutes walking from it, you can find larger and more secluded beaches.

3 – Kupalište Stari Grad
Located 20 minutes from the city center and 49 minutes from the Ferry Port, this pebble beach is probably the one I visit most often because of its space and surroundings. There are plenty of more secluded areas to relax if it’s full of tourists and little children.
Just walking from Stari Grad to this place is something worth mentioning—the pine trees, the different hues of blue, and the way the rays of light dance in the water.

4 – Uvala Paklina
From Kupalište Stari Grad, it’s another 10-minute walk to get to my favorite area to rest and enjoy. It’s a bit far from the city center, but it’s worth it!
From this point onward, the area becomes an FKK (nudist) area, so don’t be shocked if you see some naked people lounging on one of the secluded beaches around. Once you’re in this area, you can find lots of tiny private beaches if you continue walking along the coast.

This particular beach doesn’t have one big pebble beach but small rock platforms. It’s perfect if you want to escape from the tourists, as it’s located further away from the city center.
5 – Beach Maslinica
This beach is a 40-minute walk from the city center but only 14 minutes from the Ferry Port, so it could be a good option if you don’t have much time and need to catch the ferry.
It’s the only sandy beach around the island. Although it’s not completely sand—there are some parts with pebbles—so don’t go crazy running around, or you might get hurt.
This beach is public, but behind it, there is a private area belonging to Maslina Resort, which is only available to guests. An underground river flows from the mountain into this beach, making the water colder than at other beaches.

Best Time To Visit
Definitively the best time to visit is from mid April to mid October. Having the longest days in June and July. Hvar Island is expensive but this beaches in Stari Grad are all for FREE!
