Get to know me
Hi! My name is Manuel Rey, the founder of Travel To Exist.
Get to know me!
Originally from Argentina, I left my home when I was 24 and always kind of knew that I wouldn’t return.
You will always see me with a smile on my face and the mate ready to drink. My oldest travel companion, and if possible surrounded by animals.
I’m a chef who hates working as one but loves to cook for friends and family. During my travels, I’ve worked as a waiter, picker-packer at Coca-Cola, read transcriptions for AI learning, worked on a kiwi farm, as a chef, in mines, as a beach boy, as a cleaner and receptionist.
I think my true passion is to travel, getting out of my comfort zone, leaving everything behind and starting from scratch.
I love the feeling of having all my belongings fitting in my backpack and being free to move around as I please.
If you are this kind of person! You are in the right place!
I wouldn’t consider myself an expert traveller because there is always new things to learn but I’ve been traveling for the last 6 years of my life, living, volunteering, working and having the most amazing experiences all around the world.
After spending all these years traveling, the idea of having a ‘normal’ life, with 40 hours per week of work, non stop for 11 months and hopefully two weeks of holiday per year frightens me a lot. I don’t think I will ever be a ‘normal’ person again, and I love it!

Countries I’ve lived in
I’ve lived in Germany for a year with a Working Holiday Visa, followed by New Zealand for another year also with a WHV. After that I spend nearly three years in Australia, where I met my beautiful girlfriend, and we have been traveling together since.
We also lived in Chile for six months. Currently, we are in Hungary (with a WHV as well) because, what’s better than going on traveling and meeting awesome people?
My Adventures
Amidst all my adventures, I’ve lived in a seven-house town in the middle of the woods, gone skydiving, swum with whale sharks, seen wild orangutans in Sumatra, lived surrounded by wolfhounds, swum with manta rays, slept in an abandoned hotel with chains hanging over my head, attended incredible festivals, ventured to the crater of an active volcano, encountered Komodo dragons, and become a vegetarian three years ago. Hopefully, there will be many more adventures to come!

My Goals
Upon reaching my 30s, I’ve come to the realization that I want to continue traveling and maintain this lifestyle. Along the journey, I aspire to share my knowledge accumulated over the past six years on the road to assist fellow travelers to make their journeys easier and less stressful.
